  • Prisoners turn the screw

Aylesbury PrisonHaving been arranged by our own Marc Bassinder, the cavaliers today took a team in to H.M.P. Aylesbury (young offenders) to play their football team.

On a warm, spring afternoon, the prisoners (who fielded a different team each half) ran out winners by the score of 9-3. The half time score had been 7-2,  so it was a much improved 2nd half display from the cavaliers.

The prisoners virtually scored from the kickoff and showed that they had fitness in abundance, and some very good, fast, skillful, players, some of which had been ex youth players at pro teams like Brentford, Chelsea, and Stoke city.

Dino Rice once again (in the absence of our regular goalkeeper) stepped in and played between the sticks. After falling behind to another goal, the Cav`s got back into the game with a strike from Raimond Lee-Long, and a well worked goal which was despatched by Joshua Rice after being set up by an unselfish pass from his brother Jordan. This made the score 2-2  and it looked like the Cav`s were just starting to take the upper hand. However, a hand ball led to a silly penalty, and another misplaced pass by the Cavaliers led to the prisoners quickly swinging the game back in to their favour, making the score 4-2. Then, to make matters worse a definate Cavalier goal was then incredibly ruled out, or not given despite clearly going in.This injustice (though the only mistake the excellent referee made) frustrated the Cav`s and another 3 goals were very quickly shipped. These were again, due to individual mistakes being ruthlessly pounced upon by the well drilled and supremely fit opposition. The game finished at the half 7-2 to the prisoners.

Though a bit shell shocked, the Cavaliers listened to Aiden Bailey`s half time team talk, and some tactical changes were made to the defence. The Cavaliers shored up the leaks, with the prisoners (despite having some even better players in their 2nd half team) only managing a further 2 more goals. Raimond Lee-Long added another well taken goal for the Cavaliers and there was other chances too, but they were not taken.  Also, playing up the considerable slope seemed to be taking it`s toll on some of the senior and veteran players in the cav`s ranks. The cause was also made harder by influential midfielder Tom Smith being lost to a rib injury.

Despite the score, every one seemed to really enjoy it, and there was no animosity between the teams, with there being some good natured banter, respect, and sportsmanship.

We will be looking to play another game with them later this summer.

  • Royalist Cup 8

    CSC_2681CSC_2700

The 8th Royalist Cup ended in a 3-3 draw today between the Gold Cavaliers and Purple Cavaliers. Aiden Bailey scored 2 goals for the golds, with debutant Tom Watts the other. For the Purples, the scorers were Raimond Lee-Long, a scorcher from Tom Smith, and a nice goal from young debutant Shahaab Raja.

There was also a first (but hopefully NOT the last !) Cavalier appearance of former Aylesbury United and Bucks CC legend Johnny Williams (pictured above left), whose classy display showed why he has always been highly rated.

The 2 teams centre backs Darren, John Ashman, Marc, and Ian Gelley were all solid, whilst Conor Bignell was impressive in his return to the Cav`s.

Special thanks for Dino Rice for stepping in and donning the Purple Cav`s goalkeeper jersey and gloves

  • Royalist Cup 7

ted on the ballRoyalist Cup 7 was played this morning in bitterly cold, windy, conditions. The two teams had only been able to take to the field because of some last minute `draft ins` that had kindly agreed to come along and play, which we were especially grateful for as it was also Mothers day !!!. The `new` Cavalier recruits on both sides were all good players, who helped make it an entertaining and enjoyable game. The Gold Cavaliers in the end finished the winners over the Purple Cavaliers by the flattering score of 5-1, but it was a lot more closer affair than the scoreline suggests. The Gold`s just took their chances and were more clinical in front of goal, but the Purple Cav`s had a lot of possession, played some nice football, and were very unlucky at times. They also only had the one subsitute to use.

Special mention`s must go out to Alastair Smart who was again so dependable in goal, even pulling off a great first half penalty save to deny the Purple Cav`s at a crucial point in the match.   Joshua Rice, who more than atoned for arriving a bit late, with a really great display putting in tackles, winning headers, and capping it off with his first Cavalier goal.   Marc Bassinder, who was playing out of his `normal` midfield position in the heart of the Gold`s defence marshalled it superbly alongside Jon Ashman.

The Purple Cav`s had some great creativity at times from Andy Peattie and Laurence Clark in the midfield, with Darren Druce`s usual stonewall defending, and Liam Road`s never ending running up front with Damon Reading, being some of their highlights.

But EVERYONE played their part in a great Royalist Cup game and I would really like to thank them all for helping to get enough players for the game to be played.

  • Cavaliers post win in cold conditions

Today the Cavaliers managed to beat the Websters Wanderers by the score of 6-2. Played in what must have been the coldest conditions we have ever played in, the game was played in a great spirit. Using volunteer referees from both sides, the players responded to this by being gracious and good natured with humour and good banter, even if there were a few questionable calls for both sides.  But all in all, both teams played their part in a most enjoyable match.

Congratulations, and good luck to Chris Webster for his wedding next month. Hope it will be a lot warmer on your big day than it was today !!!

  • Marvin Rice

It is with great sadness and much sorrow that we have to inform everyone of the sudden, and tragic loss, of one of the original cavaliers Marvin Rice, who has passed away after a short illness. Much loved by his family, friends, and team mates, he will be greatly missed.

There are plans for a benefit game to be played in his memory in the coming months.

  • Royalist Cup 6

Royalist Cup 6Royalist Cup 6 was played on sunday 22nd july at meadowcroft.  The weather was very hot and sunny, and both teams did really well in those conditions as there were a limited number of subsitutes to use.

The Gold Cavaliers ran out the winners as they beat the Scarlet Cavaliers by the score of 10-4 . The half time score had been 8-1 to the Golds,  so great credit to the Scarlet Cav`s for not giving up and winning the 2nd half.

Special mentions to Jordan Rice who got 2 goals and ran all day on his cavalier debut, James Chapman for his hat trick, Craig Fraser and Marc Bassinder for getting a brace each, and also Raimond Lee-Long who also got 2 goals – one of which was from the tightest of angles into the top corner of the net ! .  Paul Baldwin for kindly stepping in and playing in goal at the very last minute,  and the return of one of the Original Cavaliers Marvin Rice.

  • The Cavaliers beat World Vision f.c

World VisionThe Cavaliers beat World Vision f.c. on sunday by the score of 8-2, the game was a bit tighter than the scoreline suggests and was played in a good spirit by both sides. The 2nd half was cut short to 30 minutes – as the first half came to a premature end on 38 minutes with a serious head wound to a World Vision player who needed hospital treatment. The player was allowed home the same evening after stitches and will be okay. Conor Bignell of the Cavaliers, also left the pitch in the first half due to a facial injury which was very swollen and he was unable to return to the game. Cavalier goalscorers were Marc Bassinder (3), Raimond Lee-Long (2), Jordan Castello, Craig Fraser, and Joe Pickwick.

  • Royalist Cup

    The Royalist Cup

The 5th Royalist Cup was ( again !)  won by the Gold Cavaliers who defeated the Purple Cavaliers by the scoreline of 9-2 . Both sides had to make do with a bare eleven (with no subs until Dino Rice arrived) as four players didn`t show, and another four had  previous commitments. But the game was again played in a good spirit- though we are (especially the VERY SENIOR players) looking forward to us ALL being on the SAME side in the next game that we play against non cavalier opposition.
Special mention to Jamaican Striker Ray Allen who made his debut and scored 2 goals for the Gold Cavaliers.
