Haiti (Hurricane Matthew) Benefit Game raises £250

Thanks to the pitch hiring fee being kindly waived by the local council, generous donations from the players, and sales of the remaining stock of Cavalier sweatshirts, the recent fundraising game for the victims of Hurricane Matthew (that devastated the Carribean Island of Haiti) raised £250, which was donated to the U.H.U.K. charity to help purchase vital supplies and aid there.

  • Royalist Cup 14/Haiti Benefit

Royalist Cup 14 was played on Sunday December 20th at Bedgrove, Aylesbury, Bucks. It was a benefit  game to raise funds for the beleaguered people of Haiti in the carribean after the severe widespread destruction of the recent Hurricane Matthew.

After the frustrating (but now seemingly expected) delaying of the kick off, due to late time keepers and non shows, the two teams kicked off  with 10 players apiece. A young lad of 15 who had been kicking a ball about with a friend was asked if he wanted to play and make up the numbers due to the shortages of personnel. He kindly agreed, and what a revelation he was !!! He was not in the least bit fazed by the jump up in age and size. Little did we know, Max came from a very good local footballing pedigree ! (his Dad being former Aylesbury United legend Cliff Hercules). He ran with such pace and dribbled and controlled the ball with an confidence way beyond his years !!!. The sky blue Cavaliers had a fearsome Wall in defence with big defenders Aiden Bailey, and Leon Thompson, and though the sky blue Cav`s went on to win the game 3-2, Max certainly caused the whole team problems all afternoon with his trickery and speed.

Ryan Blake turned out once more for the Cavaliers, this time for a very worthy cause, and his jet heeled pace and deadly eyed markmanship was clearly displayed again with another brace. The Sky Blues and Damsons led 1-0 at the half  The Golds started the second half with poise and purpose, and looked to be controlling the game, and certs to equalise, but a great long range dipping shot from Jordan Castello found the top corner to make it 2-0 to the sky blues and took the stuffing out of the Golds come back. Ryan Blake then controlled a long crossfield pass from Jordan Castello and shimmied his way just into the area and shot across the goal and onto the far post and in to make it 3-0. Andy Peattie then thumped home a header from a corner to put the golds back into the game. Rai Lee-Long raced on to a through ball to despatch the ball beyond Simon Mills and make it 3-2 (his 37th All time Cav`s goal) very late in the game to make it a very nervy couple of final minutes as time expired.

  • Royalist Cup 13

    csc_0870csc_0898

Royalist Cup 13 was played on sunday march 6th 2016, at Bedgrove, Aylesbury, Bucks. It was the closest Royalist Cup game yet, with the sides locked at the break with the first EVER goal less half !!!. After the break the Purple Cav`s scored first through Rai Lee-Long only for the golds to level through Craig Fraser`s well taken strike after being set up by a slide rule defence splitting pass from team mate Devon Blackman. The Purple`s had an impressive and scarily fast attack with Ryan Blake up top with Rai.  Though the Gold`s defence stood up to the test for the whole of the first half with Veteran Defender Darren Druce and Big defender Leon Thompson mopping things up, alongside Rich Clothier and the very impressive Ashton Lawler who not only defended with class, but also made endless runs forward without getting the support or reward that they deserved. Aiden Bailey and Ian Gelly were likewise solid for the Purple`s defence.  Andy Peattie and David Richards worked tirelessly for the Purple`s midfield as did Jordan Rice for the Gold`s. The Purple`s  ended up taking a 3-1 lead through another 2 goals for hitman Rai Lee-Long,  who now stands at the top of the Cavaliers All Time scorers with 36 strikes to date. The Gold`s did though, make it a tight, and exciting finish to the game, when a long range shot from Omari Alphonse  just slipped through the Purple`s `volunteer` goalkeepers Marc Bassinder`s hands, who had otherwise had a very solid performance, and who had stepped in at very late notice.  Special mention`s  must go out to David `Bruno`Richards and Patrick Henry for their Cavalier debuts for the Purple`s, and Trevor Bateman for the Gold`s. Whilst the volunteer officials -Errol Henry -referee, Dino Rice and Anthony Hall -linesmen, must be thanked for their efforts as no one else wanted to step in/up to do it !!!. After the Gold`s winning the first 10 of the 13 Royalist Cup matches, the Purple`s have now won 3 on the bounce !!!.  The tradition of exciting and well matched games continue.      dsc_0312csc_0839
